Manchester City and Liverpool assets ahead of GW5

Ah, we are over the dreaded and prolonged International break has come and gone and we can look forward to Premier League football being back on our screens again this weekend. With that in mind, we are looking ahead to GW5 in Fantasy Premier League and what Manchester City and Liverpool assets you should be looking at ahead of their respective games against Norwich City and Newcastle United.

To be honest with you all, there are an abundance of goals expected in both games this weekend. The Liverpool trio of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohammad Salah are only starting to get going and into the swing of things under Jurgen Klopp this season and if Sadio Mane and Mo Salah make up over the course of the International break, then the goals are on the horizon once again.

There are only certain players of Liverpool who you should be picking for this weekend. I think, you could get away with not picking Adrian in goal, because if you have one or two players from their defence, then you're good. Also, their first choice goalkeeper Alisson will be back from his injury he has soon. In terms of defenders, you need to have one or two of Andy Robertson, Virgil Van Dijk or Trent Alexander-Arnold as all have performed quite well at the start of the season, leading Liverpool to perform and win all of their first four matches.

Then, it is a case of looking at the midfield and picking Mo Salah or Sadio Mane one will be able to cover the other players points tally. They may have had a little falling out over GW4 when Sadio Mane threw his toys out of the pram because Mo Salah wouldn't pass the ball for a goal chance, but over the course of the season and this weekend, I see both players scoring many points.

If you are captaining Liverpool players this weekend, make sure it is either Sadio Mane or Mo Salah, because if you don't, you could find yourself chasing and having to make up for lost points.

FPL Points so far:

Adrian: 12
Andy Robertson: 12
Trent Alexander-Arnold: 22
Virgil Van Dijk: 19
Sadio Mane: 25
Mo Salah: 36

Moving onto Manchester City and again there are many options to choose from this weekend for the current Premier League Champions.  It is now that time of the year that Pep will start to put in place, his rotation methodology and us FPL managers will have to deal with it. We will have to try to outthink Pep and pick the Manchester City players whom we think may definitely start.

But, getting back to the matter in hand and who from Manchester City will make the difference in their away game to Norwich City on Saturday afternoon. It is sometimes tough to choose Manchester City coverage and Pep's rotation is definitely hard to deal with, but one player who is set to cover Manchester City in the backline is their Brazilian goalkeeper Ederson, who if the Champions keep a clean sheet, he will pick up bonus points.

With Aymeric Laporte out injured and not expected to return before the end of the calendar year. Pep has advised that Kyle Walker could play in the centre of defence and it could very well start this weekend against the Canaries, so if he can gain a clean-sheet at least this weekend and he passes the eye test, why not consider him.

That could allow for Oleksandr Zinchenko and Joao Cancelo to step up and be the dynamic wing-backs. Joao Cancelo will more than likely be eased into the back-line by Pep, but Zinchenko should be able to do a lot more, even if Benjamin Mendy is on the way back from injury. Why not take a look at the Portuguese and Ukranian Internationals this weekend.

We will skip to up-front and the only striker at the minute that Manchester City have, until Gabriel Jesus returns: Sergio Aguero. Six goals in the first four games of the season, the Argentine striker has been slowly going about his business, while Fantasy managers were looking at the likes of Harry Kane, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Jamie Vardy.

In the midfield, the top pick is definitely Raheem Sterling, especially if Pep Guardiola keeps playing him in a forward leaning position. He is at the minute, matching Salah's stats and his xG at the start of the season. Therefore, he is considered the second best captain choice. If you are looking for alternatives to Raheem Sterling, then you need to be looking at Kevin de Bruyne, who for  3.0 less, he is covering Raheem's points at the start of the season.

FPL points so far:

Ederson: 17
Walker: 16
Zinchenko: 15
Cancelo: 1
Sterling: 37
de Bruyne: 36
David Silva: 24
Bernardo Silva: 10
Aguero: 40
